January 19, Martin Luther King Day - a holiday to remember: Revisited
Copyright (c) 2009 John J Reddish
This year, 2009, is different: Martin Luther King, American day of service, is in many ways has been our most relaxing holiday. It was as if increasing the impact and acceptance is expected - something. Born of the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, has been resisted by some and ignored by others, while embraced without much fanfare at the time like a party like no other. It is a day that invites us back through the personal service, and increasingly more of us do it every year. Now you can register projects and get updates about the party at: http://www.mlkday.gov/
But that's history this year and the annual update that simply do not write seems to be enough. This year, I think, Martin Luther King, January 19, 2009 represents the end of a beginning to our American dream - an end to our violent birth and growth adulthood as a nation, and the nozzle end attention to the promises - still unfulfilled. It is a day to explore possibilities and one day to prepare for a day like no other.
It is my hope that January 20, 2009, and the inauguration of Barack Obama, will be recorded as the first day of full bloom United States, the day that "Yes we can" becomes a reality for everyone. And: "Yes, we will," represents our interest mantra goes.
No doubt we have the problem. Our economy is a disaster. A quiet panic grips us. Faith in many of our institutions and ways of doing business has been shaken, if not shattered. However, in many respects, we have put on hold since our last choice - wait - wait for 20 January.
Statue of Liberty stands in New York Harbor, welcoming all who embrace the American dream. His words of greeting (http://www.libertystatepark.com/emma.htm) will never change. However, we can instill new vitality. We used to encourage a renewed commitment in the hope, that we embrace new eyes, blind to the intolerance and that we revitalize our ability to continue with enthusiasm. We used to call upon all those who were born here and all those who enter by that door "golden", continue to enrich the fusion Pot we call America.
Our current challenges will take all our ingenuity, our talents - talents honed talent here and recently reached our shores - great sacrifice and a new commitment to the evolution of an American dream.
Celebrating Martin Luther King Day this year should be a reminder of our year-end celebrations, replacing the service to others to toast with champagne, preparing for our new day at dawn. It is very much, "Yes we can!"
Happy holidays.
