5 lessons about leadership + A definition that you should know what a leader

I spent several years in the United States Marine Corps. After several years of observations and seeing many types of leadership traits that I learned what I feel to be doing and no leadership. I also learned that there are many types of leadership and how people reacted to the curtain in different styles completely different. What I want to talk about whether it is a method that seems to work for me.

Here is a definition of leadership that I really like.
A Leader

A leader must listen to yourself ... your own inner voice of management, strength and conviction. When this voice is not heard moving aimlessly through the seas of fear and doubt. When this voice is heard and not follow the same betrays and those around him.

A leader has fears, doubts and failures - and conquer them. The inner voice is the foundation stands firm against the waves of resentment and resistance.

A leader puts it aside for the needs of others may prevail. It is soft, strong, confident and uncompromising, as necessary, always following the melody inner voice.

A leader knows when living fully the freedom of a soaring eagle.

As a leader I learned many leadership traits, but I share my 5 favorite leadership lesson I learned while serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Navy.

1. Reliability - If you say you will do something. You only need to do. One thing is to tell someone who will do something. It is even worse for you to say you'll do something and do not. By lying to yourself again and again, you training your subconscious mind that you're full of shit. When you go to lead others, you use your own lack of integrity in the manga. People feel that, you have to change now, if you are like this.
2. Courage - Leaders are people who take risks. In order to be a leader courge must have in yourself and in the system. Even when things seem to be working, have to figure out how to make things work. Courage is standing on the edge of a cliff knowing that You Need to download, but no strings, so just start going down without hesitation. When halfway down, look up and see your troops followed.
3. Decisiveness - This is simple. The leaders are quick to make decisions and slow to look back. Leaders do not need a period of three days to think about things. Just and correct decision on the fly. They know that if things go as planned it will auto correct and learn and build character further down the road.
4. Knowledge - You should be learning at all times. Every great leader I know the weather is in the marines or in business are always reading things they do best. You should be learning at all times.
5. Selflessness - Learn to care for others. As a leader, you do not always think standing in the lime light and getting all the attention. Learn to share, teach and pass their assets to the lion cubs underneath you, so one day can become lions.

Is there a magic ingredient or recipe for leadership success? Or is there an answer to the question "What makes a good leader? "There is an abundance of leadership books available at your local bookstore, sale of each book the authors, no single recipe for leadership success.

If a single, proven recipe to make a good leader there, then everyone would be the same role model, however, Some people see Richard Branson, while others aspire to emulate the style of Jack Welch, or even Mother Theresa.

With an increasing diversity of books and reference material on leadership that are available, the challenge becomes selecting the type of leader he aspires to learn from someone who must fight to shape our beliefs and behaviors.

How do we choose the model right?

Choosing the right can be difficult, especially when our research quickly identifies good leaders with such attributes diverse as Richard Branson, Jack Welch and Mother Teresa.

When I ask people to identify a good leader, that always surprises me that they wish, and their reasons for doing so. My advice is to select a few leaders to be their model to follow. At least pick someone who appeals to you and it was successful in its filed.

However, instead of looking to the person or personality, the road to success is more evident when we focus on what a good leader does. A good leader does results, Richard Branson, Jack Welch and Mother Teresa gave all results in his field and did so because of the attributes they have in common.

All good leaders have the attributes of passion, persistence and resilience in common.

Passion

Good leaders are passionate about what they are doing, but is not limited simply to be good leaders, but also constantly learning more about their field.

Sales Example:

If a good leader is in a sales environment that will try to maintain their knowledge of sales and customer service with contemporary research, the latest ideas and trends within your industry or other industries. This knowledge is the detailed knowledge of the process, good leader will allow the sales to discuss with their employees.

If you discover that you could improve the sales experience if your employees gently touch the client's hand as it returns the customer's credit card or change, then you never stop talking about it.

You will be persistent in the things that are important for your business.

Manufacturing example

If the leader is in a manufacturing environment, are passionate about the products manufactured by the company and / or the final product using the components.

A leader will also be making a passionate moment of truth, that's when the client receives the benefit of using the product.

(People's sales should also be passionate about your business and the products they sell)

How be passionate:

To be passionate is necessary to prioritize and allocate time

1. discuss your business, your processes and products to its employees

2. seeking customer feedback directly, not rely on reports and surveys results3. research best practices from within and outside your industry

The cycle of passion

The cycle of passion is based: as they gain more knowledge of their customers and best practice research you will use this knowledge when meeting with employees, feeding your passion and your passion will be based inturn

. As your employee passion is based, will begin to source the product or process information and then share the information with you.

Together we will build an organization passionate.

Persistence

Why persistence?, And you will hit roadblocks, people put obstacles in front of you and are hitting home runs even though it may take some time for results to show.

Some of his employees will be others preach cold failure, however you will have to be persistent.

It may take 6 weeks for the early adopters (first to respond positively employees) to respond to his passion, and even more for the rest of their employees.

Resistance

Resistance is a personal quality that comes with confidence, experience and achievements.

Resilience is;

1. Knowing that you will success, no matter what happens, what challenges are facing or have an occasional crash, get up and try again.

2. Holding steady - once that people should begin to plan to say why it will not work, once you start a change initiative people will tell you that is not working.

3. Holding its nerve, keeping their faith, continue to sell the vision.

Now you can see that no matter that the leader you have chosen as their role model. The passion, persistence and resilience are the mandatory features required of a good leader a good leader is someone who delivers results.
