How do you incubate ball python eggs using a hovabator incubator and hatchrite?
Hovabator is a basic incubator that will keep the temperature at a constant (whatever you set it at). Ball pythons incubate well at a temp of 88-90 F. Just follow directions included with the hovabator when it comes to setting the temp. I've used them before and they aren't too difficult.
The eggs you'll be wanting to put in a sealed container like a rubbermaid box. Fill the rubbermaid with several inches of hatchrite and submerge each egg about halfway in the substrate. Hatchrite is a premoistened substrate so you do not need to add any water to it initially. Always keep eggs turned exactly as they were laid or you will drown the embryo. Just space them equally so the eggs aren't touching and have substrate between them. Seal the rubbermaid with the lid but punch tiny holes in the top to let oxygen in. Eggs must get oxygen since they breath through the shell. Also babies will need oxygen when they hatch.
Place the rubbermaid box into the hovabator (set on wire mesh in the middle not touching heating rods). Check it around once a week to remove any obviously infertile or spoiled eggs. If it gets too dry you can add small amounts of water into the corner of the rubbermaid. As long as there is some condensation on the sides of the rubbermaid you know humidity is high enough. Generally snake eggs hatch about two months after they are laid.

If you are considering breeding, please consider the numerous unwanted ball pythons that are in need of homes. Breeders rarely make any profit especially on commonly available species such as ball pythons. If you do decide to breed, make sure you will be able to place offspring with caring and responsible owners.
